Pieces of Victoria

Wow! What a birthday present for our 4th birthday!

Pieces Of Victoria has nominated us as one of the best brunch spots in regional Victoria! Add to that we find ourselves alongside some of my favourite regional cafes from around the state, and what can I say? I’m a pretty happy camper! You can check out the article right here… and see who else made it onto the list.

Big thumbs up to the Livefast crew, you guys are really making this place something special. Its going to be an exciting season ahead with you guys rocking this little town with seasonal food and produce, and coffee to die for!

Whens the last time you brunched in Halls Gap? There’s never been a better time than now!

What’s the goss’ on everything else? Well do any of you remember the guys and girls from Faire Ferments? Silly me, of coarse you do! They are the ones brewing amazing pear cider made from fruit farmers cant sell due to nameless supermarket chains rejecting fruit they had previously agreed to buy… This amazing team is now working in conjunction with Alkira Organic Farm to produce sensational 100% organic Pink Lady apple cider! You’ve got to hand it to these guys, they are doing a brilliant job and supplying us with some pretty amazing liquid treats at the same time! Want to know more? Jump over to to get the full story!

Candice McLeod, where have you gone?? Anyone who frequents our open mic night or comes by for a coffee will be aware of our local resident muso, Candice McLeod. Well, technically she’s not local, we pinched her from Queensland, but we will claim her as her own for now.. Candice joined us about a year ago and has been organising all our live music events, performed gigs herself, and even slaves away on the coffee machine like the rest of the Livefast crew! I’m sad to say, she is off on her next adventure now, returning back to the road on tour and her next ADVENTURE! You’ve done an amazing job here Candice and have really brought the next level of live music to Halls Gap. Thanks for your work, and make sure you swing by again soon.. Here’s a shot of Candice rocking the little Livefast stage with Benny Waker in her most recent gig.. Take care and see you soon!

And one more thing on this Spring day’s web update… The Livefast Coffee Cruiser is ready… I’m off to Melbourne next week to pick her up from her cosmetic makeover, and I can’t wait to bring the coffee to YOU! Stay tuned, its going to be wild… Will & the Livefast crew…

Where does the time go?

Where DOES the time go? And where do I begin on what’s been happening lately?

Well to begin with, I am proud to announce that Livefast Lifestyle Café turns 4 years old this October 4th! Its hard to believe how fast this time has flown, and I have to say a big thanks to all the staff, customers, friends and supporters over this time! Given the spate of bad luck our home has faced in the last 4 or more years (a couple bushfires, locusts, floods, landslides, and some minor earth quakes thrown in for good measure), its amazing to still be here! We have weathered the storm and come out the other side! Hopefully many more years of evolution and growth to come, and a sunset or two thrown in for kicks… cheers 😉

What else is news? Well, the Livefast Coffee Crusier has nearly completed a cosmetic makeover.. Some of you may remember this at Run The Gap this year? A shifty looking blue 78′ FJ45 LAndcruiser adorned with a mobile coffee set up? Well we decided it was time to give the old girl a fresh lick of paint… Any day now she will be ready to start appearing at an event near you, in a fresh coat of gorgeous paint… not too far to go! A big thanks to  Paul @ PJ’s Panels in Keysborough for the incredible work he does with restorations, big thumbs up to this guy!photo 4photo 3

The Spring menu has been a big success too, we really are on a roll  and spoilt here with options thanks to the fantastic team in the kitchen. Flavour is the spice of life and there’s some pretty amazingly flavoursome craft beer and local wine on offer, its a hard choice knowing what to put on the menu, but somebody must do the testing I suppose.. if I have to (he he he) After something different this month? How about a honey wheat beer from my temporary stomping grounds of Mildura.

Food wise, Bron has been creating our seasonal menus here for the last 12 months or so, and does an amazing job of meeting my sometimes (ok, mostly) wacky demands.. We are lucky to have you Bron, its great to have you here making such a brilliant contribution to the café.. Jump across and check out our Spring menu! Pancakes anyone?

I’ve said it before, but it must be said again, Caro, how do you come up with these cakes? Nutella cheesecake? Tequilla Lime Cupcakes? The girl certainly has a passion for baking, and it shows through in every cake that graces our cabinet… Very lucky café owner right here to be part of such a unique and diverse team.

Do you see what I’m getting at? Four years down, and we have only made it this far thanks to YOU! The staff, the customers, the friends and the supporters! It takes a whole team of incredible individuals to get this far… So thank you guys n gals.. Its been a pleasure, and I look forward to what the future may hold! Love your work.. Will & the Livefast crew..

Spring has sprung

A brand new season is upon us, loving the thought of warmer days, swimming in one of our beautiful lakes, and maybe even knocking back a cold craft beer or two!

As we kick off this month, check out our brand new menu (you’ll find it right here on the menu tab!), with an updated wine and beer offering. While we are all about the coffee at Livefast, we also have a passion for local wines, craft beer, and the best local and regional ingredients we can get our hands on! Its time to start getting out and about as the days become longer, and the mercury rises! Don’t forget, this time of year is perfect for wildflowers, hikes, fishing, cycling, and just about anything you can think of to do outside.. See you soon everybody, its warming up!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Great little snow fall we have had lately, it certainly adds some excitement to the air in this part of the world! It makes it just a tiny bit hard to slave away behind the coffee machine while everybody else is frantically flinging snow balls at each other on top of one of The Grampians highest peaks! I’m fairly sure we all managed to sneak up the hill at some stage though, and it truly was beautiful, and quite amazing to see just how much the mountains transform with a sprinkle of snow. Spectacular and breathtaking, I love it!

After a three month break, we kicked off our monthly open mic night on the 31st of July. It was great to see it back in full swing, with a full house of guests and a handful of local musicians turning out on the wild wet windy night. We are certainly very lucky to have such an amazing pool of local talent at our doorstep. I must say a massive thank you to all that attended! To keep things interesting on the menu, we tried our first ever ‘Ciders and Sliders’ night too! Sliders are simply mini burgers for those that havnt stumbled across this suburban trend yet. It was very fun and the chefs did an amazing job of designing these gourmet little treats, they can be fiddly at the best of times, so well done to Bron and Federick for pumping them out under the pressure of a full house!

By the way, our lovely pastry chef Caro, who has been back to visit her home country of Germany, is back on deck and pumping out some sweet treats! All our cakes are home made, and Caro is doing an amazing job. She really has a passion for baking all things sweet. You have to get in and try some of my favourites, there’s Beesting cupcakes, Choc Ripple Cheesecake, Danish Dream cake, the list goes on! Thanks Caro for keeping the pastry cabinet so interesting and tempting, to a fault! On that note, I think I better go for a bike ride, run, kayak, or anything for that matter, its beautiful out here today and I have been sampling wayyyyy too many delicacies from this kitchen!

Catch you soon everybody! Will & The Livefast Crew

Beauty and the Winter Beast

espresso martinisWhat a Winter it has been so far! Still, its got to be one of the most beautiful times of the year in the Grampians, and a good time to toy around with delicious treats like espresso martini’s! Just for kicks we thought we might try making these on one of our latest music nights, and I have to say they were a hit! Certainly a little more cosmopolitan than this sleepy little town is used to anyway!

Speaking of music nights, its nearly time for our Open Mic night to return after a three month break! We will be kicking this off again on the 31st of August, and will keep on rockin’ it on the last Thursday of every month till further notice! We are planning on doing something a little different for the menu for this one too, stay tuned for a special one off Cider and Sliders night! Mini burgers of the gourmet variety anyone?

Another little bit of excitement recently came in the form of snow on our highest peak here, Mount William! It was well worth braving the chilly breeze on the hike up the hill, and I managed to snap this shot after some cheating little monkeys in a Parks Victoria vehicle four wheeled their way up the hill in heated comfort! With a bit of luck it wont be the last of the snow this year, its well worth checking out when it does fall!

We hope to see you all soon for more music, food and drinks, its definitely coffee drinking weather! Will & The Livefast Crew!

What a view on Winter!

Winter is here and despite the cold, its definitely one of my favourite times in the Grampians! The walking trails are virtually deserted, the scent of camp fire smoke hangs over the town, the mornings are fresh and the days sunny and crisp! Not a bad time to get out and explore! Speaking of which, one of our team has been doing just that. Amanda’s been up to Mt Rosea and back with one of our new keep cups and snapped this shot just for kicks! Its a pretty hefty hike, but the view is spectacular and well worth the effort, when will we see YOU up there? Do you happen to have any awesome photos of your very own Livefast KeepCup in a beautiful remote location? Send it through to us at and we will share it up here on the site, we’d love to see them!

Winter warm ups

Coffee cruiser rtg

We made it! Just in time for Run The Gap 2014! The Livefast Coffee Cruiser was a hit with everyone who attended, and surprisingly, I think the coffee from the little Brugnetti machine may even be better than what you will find at the café!

Big thanks to our local legend Megan (centre) for helping out on the day, Ben (right) and I couldn’t have done it without you!

What now? We will be temporarily retiring the ute for a fresh coat of paint over Winter, just in time for Spring! It will also give us some time to fine tune and polish a few finishing touches on the operational side of things too! Big things to come from this little coffee truck! Stay tuned……

applepieKnow what else is really cool? One of our newer team members has been cooking up a storm in our kitchen! Check out this for amazing, Bron’s Deconstructed Apple Pie! A whole apple stuffed with an Autumn fruit compote on a sweet pastry biscuit with a dollop of cream and  drizzle of home made butterscotch sauce! We certainly have some talented crew right now! Yum!!!!

Look out for our new Winter menu coming soon!!!

(COFFEE) Crusin’ into May

coffee cruiser

Lookey what we have here ladies and gents! The 1978 Toyota FJ45 Landcruiser is nearly ready to be released to the public!
Hopefully ready to debut at Run The Gap in late May, (check it out and get your entry in here! this beautiful old truck has been getting done up and fitted out ready to serve you the best coffee this side of Melbourne! We have been providing you with excellent coffee here in The Grampians now for nearly four years, but now its time to take the brew to you! Watch out for the Livefast Coffee Cruiser at an event soon! Think you have an event you’d like to see us at? Drop me an email through the contact page and I’ll see what I can do!
Hope to see you fighting fit for Halls Gap’s first 21km trail run in May (or a 6km or 12km!), the course is stunning and not for the faint hearted, think I might play it safe and stick behind the coffee machine this year..
See you soon! Will & The Livefast Crew!!

Autumn has arrived – with a HOT new menu!

Craft Beer

Hey Hey! Its great to see the back end of another hot and hazardous bushfire season! We were lucky this year with a very close call, but Autumn is finally here with some cooler weather, and guess what? A BRAND NEW MENU to keep things hot while it gets chilly outside! I’m certainly looking forward to quiet campfires, hot coffee on chilly mornings, and exciting new flavours in the café!

We have kept some of the favourite dishes that have kept you guys coming back for the last three years, and injected some new and exciting creativity into this Autumn’s offering! You guys have been loving the range of craft beer we have stocked, so I paid particular attention to this section, researching in very fine detail what may be the best brews to stock! No need to thank me gang, just doing my job! (In moderation, naturally)

Don’t forget Halls Gap is a VERY exciting place to be this time of year! We have some beautiful areas to explore, and some brilliant events coming up! April see’s the annual Stawell Gift and Easter holidays, While May boats the Grampian’s Grape escape (for those that love all things food, wine, beer and coffee), and Run The Gap – with a brand new 21km half trail marathon! I have seen the course, its not for the faint hearted, and its going to be one of the most beautiful and challenging half trail marathons in the country! If your game, enter now!

On top of all this, we have some unbelievably good music events that we will be hosting on these weekends! Stay tuned, and we hope to see you all soon!

Will & The Livefast Team!

Gazing into a brand new year

Looking forward on a new year

What a year 2013 has been! Bushfires early on, cicadas on a deafening scale later, and as usual plenty of work, play and travel in between! Its been a huge year, Livefast has continued to grow, and with it, the young community of Halls Gap and The Grampians. Its so great to see such a creative, positive and motivated group of young people in our midst right now, it can only mean one thing… World domination in 2014! The times they are a-changing, and Halls Gap has never been a better place to visit, eat, explore, live, and drink fabulous coffee!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported Livefast in 2013, particularly in regards to our fundraising partner POSHU (Projects Of Self Help Uganda). Together, we managed to raise $7878.70 in 2013 through the sales of Uganda jewellery and tips! We have been supporting POSHU for just over three years now and will be pushing forwards in 2014 with new projects and contributions. We are even hoping to build a new school/community centre in a remote village, but more on this later!

What else do we have in store? We will be continuing to evolve our little café in the heart of The Grampians, and filling in our spare time with live music, local produce and adventures near and far! 2014 is going to be BIG, so what do you have planned? Will & the Livefast Crew!
